Hon’ble Minister of State ( I/C) for Youth Affairs and Sports
visited RGNIYD, Sriperumbudur , Tamil Nadu on 27.6.2014 and inaugurated the
Department of Tribal and North East
Development. He highlighted the need for engaging North East Youth in
productive activities and creation of gainful employment opportunities. He also
referred to the demographic dividend that presents India at a great advantage
and called for a holistic approach with inter-sectoral coordination to address
the needs and concerns of young people in order to realise vision of the
National Youth Policy. He further emphasised that the programme and activities
for Youth need to be realigned from Youth development approach to Youth led
development. Hon’ble Minister, interacted with participants of Consultation
workshop being conducted in RGNIYD where experts have gathered from different
institutions to impart training in priority areas and prepare comprehensive
action plan for development of tribal and North East Youth. Director, RGNIYD,
NSS volunteers and faculty members participated in the inaugural function.
