RGNIYD’s first
convocation was held at Sriperumbudur yesterday during which 163 graduates were
awarded Masters Degrees in various disciplines. Besides, 37 candidates of the
2008-10 to 2014-16 batches were awarded rank certificates for their scholastic
achievement. Ms. Lakshmi Vaidyanathan Endowment Gold Medal for the first rank
holder in Gender Studies was also instituted.
During
the occasion the Honourable Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and
Sports Shri Vijay Goel, inaugurated the National Youth Resource Centre and
Exhibition Centre & Gallery in the presence of the Chairman of RGNIYD’s
Executive Council and Secretary (Youth Affairs), Shri Rajiv Gupta IAS, Shri. A.
K. Dubey IAS, OSD, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri. L. K. Gupta IAS,
Joint Secretary (Youth Affairs) and other officials of the Ministry of Youth
Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
The
National Youth Resource Centre (NYRC) is created to function as a depository of
knowledge on youth related data which facilitates formulation of policies and
programmes, store and update disaggregated data specific to youth and
adolescents and to bring out research reports, monographs, training manuals,
IEC materials and other relevant publications on youth development. Besides,
the will encompass the ICT Training Centre, Cyber Library and Language
Laboratory. The Institute also proposes to set up a Geo-Spatial Laboratory in
collaboration with the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS).
Later, during the
Convocation ceremony, the Director of RGNIYD, Dr. Latha Pillai presented the
Annual Report on the accomplishments of the Institute. Shri Rajeev Gupta,
Chairperson of the RGNIYD's Executive Council awarded the degrees to the
graduates followed by his address. The Hon'ble Union Minister for Youth Affairs
and Sports presented the awards, medals and prizes to the graduates.
