Workshop on Novel Food Product Development

RGNIYD, Regional Centre, Chandigarh is exploring all the possibilities of developing the skills of young people. In this regard, RGNIYD, Regional Centre, Chandigarh yesterday inaugurated a 5-day workshop on “Novel Food Product Development – way forward for Skill India” in collaboration with MCM College for Women, Chandigarh. Prof. Amarjeet Singh, PGIMER, Chandigarh and Prof. U. S. Shivhare, SSBUICET, Panjab University, Chandigarh were the guests for the inaugural ceremony. Mr. Stanzin Dawa, Regional Director, RGNIYD, RC, Chandigarh welcomed all the participants and dignitaries and appreciated the efforts made by MCM College for Women, Chandigarh in producing smart students every year. Mr. Stanzin Dawa quoted that food, water and oxygen play an essential role in our lives and innovation in the food industry is the need of the hour as the GDP is increasing day by day.

He also informed the students that Make in India is only feasible if our youth is highly skilled. Thus, skilling the young people can become the pathway to Make in India. He referred to the example of Mr. E. Sharath Babu, Founder and CEO, Food King, someone who dreamt big, and gained an incredible education while living in a slum and is today a successful entrepreneur and proud owner of ‘Foodking’ with branches in five cities across India. He motivated the students for taking the initiative and stand out in the crowd. Dr. Geeta Mehra, Asst. Professor and Head, Department of Food Science, MCM College for Women, Chandigarh gave a brief introduction about the theme of the workshop. Prof. U. S. Shivhare, SSBUICET, Panjab University, Chandigarh in his lecture demonstrated how innovation can bring you success in the world. Prof. Amarjeet Singh, PGIMER, Chandigarh delivered an expert talk on Food Safety in a very innovative, refreshing and participatory manner.

The day 1 of the workshop witnessed team building games facilitated by Ms. Kamalpreet Kaur, Training Coordinator, RGNIYD, RC, Chandigarh, a session on “Sensory Evaluation: Threshold Value detection” by Ms. Sonu, Asst. Professor, MCM College for Women, Chandigarh and a session on “Intellectual Property Rights” facilitated by Mr. Gurharminder Singh, In-charge, Patent Information Center, PSCS&T, Chandigarh. The workshop observed the participation of 40 young girls from various states like Punjab, Haryana, Uttrakhand and Chandigarh.
